Done ✅ We are celebrating certification of the #CFMLEAP-powered Airbus #A321XLR by the EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency. Entry into service is expected later this year.   “Certification of the CFM-powered A321XLR is an important milestone in providing our operators much greater route scheduling flexibility,” said Gaël Méheust, president and CEO of CFM International. “The engine was always designed with 35,000-lb. thrust capability for longer range, higher max takeoff weight aircraft. Airbus and Avincis, a well-established European helicopter operator, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to partner on the development of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). The companies will collaborate to explore opportunities for operating electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft throughout Europe. Through the agreement, Airbus and Avincis will focus on defining the concept of operations for eVTOLs in Europe and beyond. Both parties will jointly work to define mission profiles for eVTOL operations in Europe and other target regions. This agreement is another step towards the creation of an AAM ecosystem and is an expansion of Airbus’ long standing relationship with Avincis. The Avincis global fleet currently includes around 60 Airbus aircraft, which are critical to delivering safe, reliable and consistent operations from its bases across Europe, Africa and South America. Avincis and Airbus have enjoyed a longstanding and successful cooperation, developing a solid and trusting relationship that will form the foundation of this new eVTOL collaboration. https://lnkd.in/gkrPP86P

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has signed a new Total Component Support (TCS) agreement with Lufthansa Technik for its upcoming Airbus A350 fleet, set to join long-haul operations in 2025. This partnership expands on their existing collaboration and will ensure a reliable, on-demand supply of A350 components, supported by Lufthansa Technik’s global network of 15 component stocks. The agreement also includes an expansion of SWISS’s parts stock in Zurich, reinforcing operational efficiency amid ongoing supply chain challenges. Both companies share a commitment to innovation and excellence, with a history of successful collaboration, including the adoption of AeroSHARK technology on SWISS’s Boeing 777 fleet. With a strong and holistic operational background, he knows how to guide and support large teams through complex challenges.   𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗧 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘁? Yes true – it was the ORAT for the new Munich Airport in 1992. The relocation from Riem to the current location near Freising was carried out in a truly remarkable overnight operation. I was a resource allocator with ground handling at the time and part of the team that managed the relocation. My job was to allocate trucks and special vehicles to the loading zones to load the material, vehicles and mainly GSE at the old airport and release them to the new airport at the right time to the right place.   𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁? It was the first ORAT project in history ever. The beauty was that it was masterminded by the ops planning department of Munich Airport, they in turn acquired people from different areas to manage and execute the project. Everything went seamlessly and without the slightest glitch! From this project, whose methodology was unprecedented at that time, we derived the program that we call ORAT (operational readiness and airport transfer) today.   𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗧 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻? I was involved in 11 and led 6 of them. It is an elevating experience to help bring such complex infrastructure to life and thus connect the world.   𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁? The first ORAT project that I participated from start to end was the one in Kuala Lumpur. I was seconded to there from 1996 and it was my first time in southeast Asia. I was young, with a great team that managed this huge project. Another highlight was the sheer size and complexity of Istanbul. The move from TK and their affiliated companies from Atatürk Airport to the new site was the largest move in mankind so far – all goods transported would cover 33 football pitches.   𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗧 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀? 30 years ago, it was a rather manual exercise, at the very beginning with pen, paper, and whiteboards. This was enough to manage the logistical challenges. With the ongoing digitalization and growing complexity in logistics, IT is increasingly important to manage the project itself but also stakeholders, logistics, trainings, and trials. We now see and test the implementation of cloud based ORAT collaboration and management platforms. The next step will be the introduction if KI to further improve and facilitate logistics, planning and communication and thus streamline ORAT projects. #newairport #ShapingTheFutureOfAirports #airportopening

Switzerland’s local industry will receive offset benefits as part of its procurement of 36 F-35A Lightning II aircraft. Mercury Mission Systems International SA announced on 21 March that it will be expanding on the manufacturing of defence technologies at its facilities in Geneva, in collaboration with Lockheed Martin. The collaboration will particularly focus on embedded computing technologies, under two engineering development agreements. The Swiss company also expects to receive further opportunities for expansion of its capabilities from the Federal Office for Defence Procurement armasuisse. “This project provides financing to Mercury Mission Systems to establish work involving two key security-relevant technologies, per armasuisse’s offset policy: software-defined radio technologies and cryptology,” a Lockheed spokesperson told #CTO. “The F-35 programme will create employment opportunities and advanced technology transfer to Switzerland.” This development results from an offset agreement concluded in 2022 against Switzerland’s purchase of the F-35s. Lockheed’s offset obligation involves localising 60 percent of the total F-35 contract value, which comprises 20 percent direct offset by 2030 and 40 percent indirect offset by 2034. Airbus A321-200 passenger to freighter (P2F) conversions will become much more common in the future, but the air cargo market potentially faces a narrowbody oversupply. The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag has approved significant funding for upgrades to the Bundeswehr’s military assets, including comprehensive software updates for NH90 NATO helicopters and development enhancements for Eurofighter jets. The NH90, a multipurpose helicopter developed collaboratively by France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany, is slated to receive an extensive software overhaul. The upgrade will incorporate new Multi Functional Displays (MFDs) to enhance flight orientation and mission-critical data visualization. The frigate version of the NH90, equipped with more advanced sensors and communication devices, will benefit from additional improvements. This upgrade, costing nearly EUR 217 million, is primarily funded by the Bundeswehr’s special assets. In parallel, the Budget Committee has also greenlighted EUR 97 million for the next phase of enhancements to the Eurofighter jets, focusing on interoperability, capability enhancement, and hardware and software updates. The forthcoming Eurofighter Phase 4 Enhancement (P4E) aims to integrate advanced weaponry and surveillance systems involving multiple nations, including Germany, the UK, Italy, and Spain. Boeing Delivery Delays: Lufthansa Says Over 40 New Aircraft "Should Have Flown Now Already" Lufthansa’s group CEO Carsten Spohr said on Monday that the core airline is struggling as the group’s new “problem child” as a result of delivery delays and higher costs that put it as a disadvantage compared to regional rivals. The Lufthansa Group as a whole includes Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Eurowings and Brussels Airlines for instance. With a 10% decrease in shares over the last six months according to Reuters, Lufthansa’s financial situation is fragile with profit warnings given rising costs having a severe impact.
